Location: Harbor Springs
A space was needed in the summer of 2011 for a wedding party on a residence in Northern Michigan. The land had an old clearcut where a stand of maples was regrowing. Tightly spaced, evenly aged, and competing for light, many were about 40' tall and 3" in diameter. This collaborative project (together with Erin Putalik) wove 80 selected tree poles together by adapting a 3-cross bicycle wheel technique to create a structure similar to a nursery hoop house. The final result was a 70' long, 24' wide structure that used over a mile of twine.
